Having previously treated with naturopaths and functional practitioners, I can wholeheartedly say that CCCFIH offers what others may not: a genuine team effort and an exceptionally supportive healing environment. Building upon the patient-centered approach inherent to functional medicine, this unique practice has exceeded my expectations with their caring, attentive staff, their free seminars (with dinner) extended to members of the community, and their dedicated patient follow-up complete with on-site health coach. Clearly, patient education and support are top priorities. From the initial group lecture and slideshow, to each personalized appointment, to being able to contact the center by email or phone with questions/concerns and get prompt responses, this team has assisted me on a personalized (and, at times, challenging) healing journey. If you, too, face health issues you’re struggling to understand, manage, reduce or reverse such as hypo/hyperthyroidism, diabetes, chronic fatigue, etc., you’d be well-served to arrange a consult. If you’re new to functional medicine, here’s what to expect: rather than spending 5-10 minutes with a physician that prescribes pharmaceuticals for symptoms, at CCCFIH you will spend a significant amount of time conversing with Dr. Brent or Dr. Tiffany, as they seek to uncover the underlying root causes of “dis-ease.” They offer a program that can ultimately help patients achieve long-term benefits—it is not about temporarily alleviating symptoms with drugs. Individual sessions are also available with health coach, Katie, who provides uplifting patient care and counseling by appointment. I’ve been involved in my program now for several months, and although I must continue taking physician-prescribed Rx for my condition (and may have to all my life), the “prescriptions” I’ve received from this clinic have been for nutraceuticals (i.e. “food as medicine”), along with dietary recommendations to help me return to optimal functioning. As patients, each of us are asked to make a personal commitment and quantify our motivation to improve, as the process of undoing perhaps years of unhealthful habits or food choices is not for the uninspired. Getting healthy requires patient participation! In other words, like me, you must be ready and willing to help yourself. If you are, then this team is right there with you, strongly supporting and guiding you on your individual path toward renewed health. I highly recommend this practice and embarking on a program at CCCFIH may be one of the greatest investments you’ll ever make in improving the quality and longevity of your life.
